Disney has released several live-action remakes such as “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, and “Cruella”. The classic animation “The Little Mermaid” is about to get a remake.

They have announced that Halle Bailey will play the title role of Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, and Javier Bardem as King Triton. The director is Rob Marshall, who directs “Chicago”. We can see the movie on May 26, 2023.

The poster gives us a glimpse of the first full look of “The Little Mermaid”. We can see Bailey sitting on a rock and looking up at the surface of the water. Except for her relatively orange hair, other elements look exactly like the scene in the animation.

Even though there are people complaining about the different looks of Ariel in the live-action adaptation, it is still exciting to see what will Disney present the classic story to us this time.

“I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory,” Bailey says, “it has been the toughest experience which made me so much stronger than I ever thought I could be.”

“The fact that now it’s getting to be played by me, a person who looks like me, a woman of colour, I’m just like, wow, I’m so grateful what it will do for all the other little Black and brown boys and girls who will see themselves in me.”

“When we started this journey it was very important to honour the original” but also reimagine and ‘bring some depth’ to the new film” Rob Marshall says.

The longtime Disney collaborated composer Alan Menken is back for the remake “The Little Mermaid” as well. He and the award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda together will make four new songs.

“They’d never collaborated together before, and it’s magical…. We still retain the beauty of the original score by the late great Howard Ashman.” Marshall also says.
