In an interview with New York Times, Nolan reveals he identifies with Cillian because of his eyes. “(His) eyes were the only eyes I know that can project that intensity,” he says.

The film premieres in theatres on the 21st of July, drawing its inspiration from the Pulitzer-winning book “American Prometheus”.

Nolan reveals how he chose Oppenheimer as he is the most “ambiguous and paradoxical” of the characters he knows.

“I think of any character I’ve dealt with, Oppenheimer is by far the most ambiguous and paradoxical.”

The film’s trailer is typical of Nolan style where it grapples with key moments in history, with heavy themes of war, greed and catastrophic destruction.

Christopher Nolan has stuck to brilliant film making. The film’s technical specifications? 70mm with Imax cameras, juxtaposed smoky black and white with colour.

The visual team even stages a nuclear explosion without CGI!

The film trailer is excellent, with great production design along with Cilian Murphy’s brilliant acting. It tells the story of a haunted man knowing that he is responsible for releasing “the destroyer of all worlds”.

“He made the world that we live in for better or for worse,” said Nolan.

The film trailer covers the story of Oppenheimer’s time as the leading scientist of the Manhattan Project in World War II.

A Man Who Feared His Weapon

Oppenheimer’s work in the Los Alamos Laboratory culminated in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. The film’s trailer focuses on the US Congress hearings that centre around Oppenheimer’s security clearance removal.

The political leadership at the time sought falsely accused him of Communist spy for the Soviet Union to discredit him after he advocated against the use of nuclear weapons.

“His story is both dream and nightmare.”

The film includes a star-studded cast with Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon.
