JACQUEMUS F/W23-24 “LE CHOUCHOU” DEBUTS AT THE PALACE OF VERSAILLES

Jacquemus kicks it up a notch with its Fall/Winter 2023/24 runway at King Louis XIV’s Palace of Versailles. The backdrop of the château and its perfectly pruned garden elevates the grandiosity of the collection.

Simon Porte Jacquemus debuts his Fall/Winter 2023/24 collection at none other than the Palace of Versailles. With a lavish red carpet sprawled alongside the lake and the backdrop of the château, it doesn’t get more royal than this. Some of the supermodels walking the carpet include Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Deva Cassel.

The runway of “LE CHOUCHOU” is attended by many fashion connoisseurs, including Victoria and David Beckham, Emily Ratajowski, and Eva Longoria. In typical royal fashion, the spectators are not sitting in chairs, they are on gorgeous white rowing boats, observing from the lake.

Let’s take a look at the collection.

Ballerina Meets Seductress

Sheer, lingerie-adjacent dresses are taken up a notch with the addition of frothy, Nutcracker-esque tutus. Meanwhile, veils wistfully mask models’ faces, casting viewers’ eyes toward voluminous shoulders and carefully placed cut-outs.

The most clever and innovative designs in this collection are the ones with an element of surprise. Some of the models adorn a ballerina-esque outfit, with little skirts and tights in pastel pink. The sexiness of the sheer bodice confronts the innocence of the ballet wear, revealing all. It is eye-catching and unexpected.

The collection employs a black, white, and red colour scheme. This adds to the whimsical ‘Alice in Wonderland’ vibe of the line (Red Queen, White Queen, you get the gist). As many brands are doing, it plays with feminity and masculinity, with the male models wearing suits with accents of tulle.

Jacquemus experiments with shape, such as puffed sleeves and bodices and traditional silhouettes. He also mixes textures and fabrics, with lace, satin, tulle, and mesh. This creates an eclectic style while maintaining its regal core.
