THRIFT VINTAGE MARKET – THE UPRISING AGAINST FAST FASHION

Last weekend, Australia’s Biggest Curated Thrift Market, “Fashion Thrift Society” returned to EORA (SYDNEY) for its Australian Tour.

On Sunday the 9th a friend of mine whisked me away to Fashion Thrift Society Market at Sydney Olympic Park after she saw a post about it on TikTok. I thought we were going to a ceramics market, nothing unusual.

Little did I know, I would have the best shopping day of my life. I have recently started strictly thrifting and not buying new due to the disastrous effects of landfill and the constant reminders of it in the news and culture. I have to save the goddamn turtles.

This has led to some fantastic thrift finds and pieces that I love more than I could ever love a brand-new Birkin Bag. However, this shopping spree was like no other.

What was the best part?

As I walk into the large, enticing, warehouse that held all the gems I didn’t know I needed, I told my friend I am not buying anything. Under no circumstance, should she let me buy a single thing. As if it was up to her, and as if that was going to stop me.

I knew I had failed my mission when I stepped into the joint. I immediately found my dream cargo pants, a brown motorcycle jacket, a Diesel crop top and a matching silver Diesel bag. Obviously, I had to get all of it.

Never have I ever dropped $500 in my life, so fast.

I got a stunning khaki trench, 5 bags, 3 shoes, a belt, a necklace, tops, skirts, dresses and countless either items. I am a mess. A massive mess. As I said, it was a shopping spree like no other.

Catch the next Vintage Market on the 10th of September at Sydney Olympic Park and may all your thrifting dreams come true.
