There Female Director Billionaire’s Club
Greta Gerwig’s BarbieĀ is the first to reach the billion-dollar mark, joining only a few other films under female direction to do so. Amongst them, isĀ Frozen and Frozen II (both co-directed by Jennifer Lee alongside Chris Buck) and Captain Marvel (co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck). According to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo, Barbie grossed $53 million in its third weekend in the United States leading the weekend box office and bringing its domestic total to $459.4 million.

Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. Pictures president of domestic distribution, said in a statement after Barbieās opening weekend.
Barbie took over Captain Marvel’s $153 million at the box office on July 21st, grossing $155 million in its first weekend in the United States. It is the greatest domestic opening ever for a film directed by a woman. Together with Oppenheimer, the Christopher Nolan biopic that came out on the same day, the two films led to the fourth-highest box office weekend in US history, And, as The AV Club points out, the largest without an Avengers or Star Wars film.
