SEEING YOUR EX? IT’S A BAD IDEA, RIGHT? – OLIVIA RODRIGO DROPS NEW MUSIC VIDEO

Olivia Rodrigo is back again with another music video for her upcoming sophomore album, GUTS. The music video for “Bad Idea, Right?” dropped on the 10th of August, and her fans are thrilled with the song’s cheeky lyrics.

Similar to her music video, “Vampire” that released last month, the video was once again directed by the creative genius, Petra Collins.

The video follows Rodrigo who is debating visiting her ex. The opening scene looks like it was taken straight out of the 90s with a fuzzy film-camera aesthetic and small aspect ratio.

We see her at a party asking the party goers if it’s a bad idea. Some of these party goers happen to be Rodrigo’s celebrity friends, Tate McRae, Iris Apatow, and Madison Hu.

The lyrics to the chorus are fun, catchy, and shameless:

“Yes, I know that he’s my ex, but can’t two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend. Biggest lie I ever said.”

The video then reveals Rodrigo’s rainy and sticky journey to her ex’s apartment. She is seen sneaking into the back of a pick-up truck, drenched in rain before jumping onto a bus where a slushy is spilled all over her.

Early Pop-punk Vibe

The song is a total 180 to the ballad sound of “Vampire. Bad Idea, Right?” gives off a nostalgic early 2000’s girl punk sound similar to that of Avril Lavigne’s early music.

The gritty guitar riffs combined with the quick and snappy vocals shows off Rodrigo’s range in music style, and her fans are definitely enjoying the cool-girl sound.

In an Instagram post announcing the video, Rodrigo writes: “we wrote the chorus as a joke but we loved it so much we made it into a full fledged song lol!”

Rodrigo also posted a sneak peak of the albums track-list. From the post, the album is set to have 12 new songs. And just by the titles of these tracks alone, we can tell this album is going to be another show-stopper.

Stay tuned for the release of GUTS due on the 8th of September. Watch the music video for “Bad Idea, Right?” below.
