The face of London-based label JW Anderson and the creative director of brand LOEWE, Jonathan Anderson unites with with art gallery Offer Waterman to debut his solo exhibition.
The exhibition titled, “On Foot”, will showcase the relationship between fashion and contemporary art. Curated by Anderson himself, “On Foot” offers viewers a close look at his Spring/Summer 2023 designs for LOEWE and JW Anderson.
This collection features pieces that reassemble transport devices through shredded menswear exuding both brand’s unique artistry and unparalleled silhouettes.
The artworks displayed within the exhibition aims to relay London’s heroic identity, emulating an explorational walk through its busy neighbourhoods.
Anderson has done this through a playful transformation of the rooms and corridors of the Offer Waterman gallery, embodying both the lively streets of Mayfair and Soho, where JW Anderson’s London store is located.
Some of the artworks include works from icons such as Lucien Freud, David Hockney, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye.
In an overview on the gallery’s page, the art pieces celebrate “all aspects of the city from the pub to the park, the gallery’s corridors and staircases will become pavements and traffic-clogged streets with skaters lingering, while ceramics and sculptures will represent crowded scenes.”
The exhibition also features a familiar motif to fans of Anderson’s designs. Pigeons being both a statement in Anderson’s pieces and a common sight on London’s streets will their own special moment.
Collaborating with Anthea Hamilton, the two created a special version of the Anderson’s viral ‘pigeon clutch’ which will be presented at both the gallery and the brand’s Soho store.
“On Foot” is the exhibition to see and will be open to the public at Offer Waterman Gallery, 17 St George St, London, from 18 September to 28 October 2023.
