On October 30, the designer—who is returning to the fashion industry with her own brand—will present her debut collection. “Our inaugural collection will be revealed and available on our website, phoebephilo.com In September 2023,” Philo wrote in an Instagram statement. “We will be opening for registration in July 2023 and look forward to being back in touch then.”

After a three-year pause, the debut was originally announced in July 2021 following a groundbreaking haute couture week in Paris. Relics from our past, resurrected in the present, was Philo’s participation on the ANDAM Fashion Jury on July 1. This was just one more step towards the industry’s post-pandemic revival.

A Sneak Peak…

Philo’s mailing list had received an email confirming the release of her namesake collection along with a sequence of rapidly flashing images. The fans were given a sneak peek at the artistic direction of her namesake label. The quick-paced GIFs featured a range of pictures of people without makeup in addition to close-ups of the materials and models donning bold silver earrings, a high-cut knit polo neck, and black cosmetics.

What to Expect

“Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling,” Philo said at the time to The Business of Fashion. “I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere.”

“To be independent, to govern, and experiment on my own terms is hugely significant to me.”
In the new business, French luxury brand LVMH will hold a minority stake alongside Philo as the label’s principal owner. “I have had a very constructive and creative working relationship with LVMH for many years,” the British designer shares.

“Phoebe Philo is one of the most talented designers of our time,” Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH reiterates. “We have known and appreciated her for a long time. Phoebe contributed to the success of the Group through her magnificent creations over several years.”

The Cult Following

Philo’s success is all-but-definite. It is difficult for even the most critical observers to identify a designer who has a bigger influence on the modern fashion scene. Philo is synonymous with Chloé and Céline – working a range of high-fashion houses throughout her career. She reinvented womenswear silhouettes at Chloé. That, and also the idea of what a modern woman is. For Céline, whose understated minimalism in the late 2000s stood out in an industry that objectified the ultra-feminine, her eight years at there were especially groundbreaking.

Philo’s aesthetics had captivated her generation. This was to a point where her departure in 2017 caused a collective grieving of her generation. Around then, is the birth of the Instagram account @oldceline, which is a repository for Philo’s designs. Slowly, after the loss of the famous “é”, Philo’s new start; born from the uprising in her former maison’s atelier, is now complete.
