The Trevor Project shows support for the LGBTQ+ community through the release of a digital clothing collection on Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Earlier this month, The Trevor Project launched a digital clothing collection for Nintendo’s game. This was in line with September being National Suicide Prevention Month.
Designed via NookPhone, those who wear the clothes are indicating their support for the LGBTQ youth. Already available for download, the collection includes a range of upper wear, from tank tops to hoodies to overalls. Additionally, a knit cap and cap is also available to complete the fit.
Why Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
ACNH gained immense popularity during lockdown. The video game allows players to enter a virtual island and build a life there. Furthermore, players are able to connect through the game’s recent ‘Dream’ feature and across social media. Significantly, ACNH became the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game, selling over five million copies in its first month.
Jonathan Silberman, The Trevor Project’s Senior Designer and Web Lead told Mashable:
“ACNH has a very loyal and engaged fanbase. It also serves as a safe and supportive space for young people to curate their world and connect with their friends.”
Players have taken to Twitter to show their support:
Thank you @TrevorProject for amazing work you do. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay Thanks #acnh & The Trevor Project for this initiative. Someone is always there for you. pic.twitter.com/fZ4iVFsA5G

The Trevor Project’s ACNH collection aims to raise awareness for suicide prevent best practices. A recent Nielsen study revealed that of all gamers over 18, 10% identify as LGBTQ+. As a result of COVID-19 and increased worldwide isolation, many have lost positive social connections.
The Trevor Project is a non-profit organisation that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ youth under 25.
Those wishing to download the clothing collection can do so via the creator code: MA-7248-1702-1536 or by searching the item title in the Custom Design Portal.
