From the Logies to the Oscars: Margot Robbie, So Hot Right Now

“She’d not had a lot of experience, but you’d swear blind she’d been in the business for years…” – Tom Oliver, Neighbours

Obviously here at Fashion Industry Broadcast we love anything and everything fashion, pop culture and celebrity style, so it should be no surprise that Australian native, the luminous Margot Robbie, is our fascination of the month.

You might (in the way, way back) remember the girl-next-door-esque beauty as Donna Freedman in Neighbours, where she joined as a bright-eyed teen in 2008 hoping to knock up a portfolio to crack the domestic film market.

Apparently that went well for her, as she’s now got a string of successful Hollywood blockbusters under her swag (…couldn’t resist) including the critically-acclaimed Wolf of Wall Street.

We can just envision Robbie sitting Leonardo di Caprio down to show him clips from the Aussie soap, which actually happened, as she told The Sunday Telegraph:

“When I started on [The] Wolf [of Wall Street], Leo and Martin Scorsese had heard of Neighbours but hadn’t seen any episodes.

So we went onto YouTube and watched a few clips.”

Robbie’s latest filmic endeavour is alongside Hollywood heavyweight Will Smith in Focus, and the star was said to have been singing her praises all throughout pre and post production.

“She’s amazing! So, so talented,” Smith told the American press.

The red carpet is a long way away from the homely living room of Dr Karl, but Robbie looked right at home at this year’s Oscars, where she was one of the first big names to hit the scene, donning a lacy YSL gown and a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace.

“I’m lucky to be wearing it,” she said.

More recently, at the premiere for Focus in L.A, a Giambattista Valli Couture gown showed how the young starlet is willing to take chances and this is an attitude mirrored in her audience for Wolf, where she decided to smack Leo in the face…

…because she felt like it:

“In my head I was like ‘you have literally 30 seconds left in this room and if you don’t do something impressive nothing will ever come of it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance, just take it.’ And so I started screaming at Leo and he’s yelling back at me.

He’s really scary. At the end he says ‘you should be lucky to have a husband like me. Now get over here and kiss me.’

So I walk up really close to his face, but another part of my brain clicks and I just go ‘WHACK.’ And then I scream ‘f— you!’. And that’s not in the script at all. The room just went dead silent and I froze.”

This random act of violence, which would perhaps in another context land her a spot in a prison cell, landed the starlet this time with a highly coveted contract, and this is why we are so in awe – anyone who can escape being arrested for common assault has to have something special about them.
