Fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Artic Monkey’s upcoming album “The Car”. The title track, “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball” is the band’s first release in over four years.

They’re Back

On October 21st, 2022 the forthcoming EP drops. This is when worldwide fans can finally indulge in the band’s latest offering. “The Car” follows “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino” ( 2018); written by Turner with production by James Ford.

The song begins with a dream-like sequence of melodic instruments. These lead you into a jazz-like interlude of steady percussion and piano chords.

Turner’s sultry voice creates an intimate experience as the lyrics warmly add an element of tenderness we only really got to see on the “Submarine” EP.

With woozy keys and a swirling orchestra, “There’d better be a Mirror Ball” weaves a tragically romantic tail. Alex’s falsetto voice leaves you feeling weightless as he sings;

“So if you wanna walk me to the car/ You oughta know I’ll have a heavy heart/ So can we please be absolutely sure / That there’s a mirrorball?”

“There’d Better Be A Mirrorball” is a more down-to-earth tune than the interstellar escapism of their Sheffield indie era in the mid-‘00s. It captures the breakdown of a love that seemed destined to crumble as Alex Turner gracefully sings along with melancholy strings.

What to Expect

After a stellar closing set at Leads Festival 2022,  one of England’s biggest music events, there is no chance of slowing down. The Sheffield band is set to headline festivals across the globe.

Live on the centre of the stage, Arctic Monkeys are truly second to none. Before ringing in the new year at Australia’s Lost Paradise, Falls Festival, and Heaps Good, you may want to attend Lowlands, Pukkelpop, Rock En Seine, Electric Picnic, Primavera Sound, and more.

Seemingly, “The car” is a promising new release with the headlights on full beam, fans alike should buckle up for this ride.
